Life extension

It's been know for a long time that calorie restriction (reducing calorie intake to about 70% of "normal" while carefully designing the diet to ensure an adequate supply of nutrients) is effective at extending the healthy lifespan of several types of animals, including some primates. In the real world this is unlikely to be helpful to humans, most of whom are notoriously lacking in willpower when it comes to restricting food intake. However, there is some hope that drugs will eventually be able to imitate the beneficial effects. Article here, further discussion with lots of links here.
