Romney scandal?
Rumor has it that Gloria Allred is about to unveil some big Romney scandal (found via The Immoral Minority), possibly a sex scandal involving him and one of his servants. Nothing on Daily Kos, Crooks & Liars, TPM, Huffington Post, etc. yet.
If it is something like that, it had better be something bigger than just conventional adultery, which is far from being a deal breaker for voters these days -- recall the Republicans' effort to take down President Clinton over Monica Lewinsky, to which the public reacted mainly with exasperation that they were distracting the government with trivia. And it had better be credible. Romney has had the career of an economic parasite, but a philanderer or sexual predator? He just doesn't seem like the type. It wouldn't be easy for the average voter to believe. A hit story that lacks credibility would likely backfire and create sympathy for Romney.
Or the rumor could be just a rumor, with nothing backing it up at all. We'll see.
Update 1: A report from Britain suggests the Republicans are nervous about whatever it is.
Update 2: Birther attention-hound wingnut Trump is now saying he's got some dirt on Obama. Can't say I'm feeling very concerned.
Update 3: According to this article (sent by Parsley's Pics), Trump's big revelation is just some old Obama divorce papers.

Reminds me of the rumor about John Boehner's alleged affair that was first run in The National Enquirer. Much of the liberal blogosphere was declaring that the NY Times was coming out with a huge expose. They never did. Maybe there was not enough conclusive evidence. Maybe there was simply nothing there at all. Or, maybe the Times sensed that the general public really didn't give a damn.
You're absolutely right that a story like this could backfire and I think liberals need to move away from unproven rumors and focus on more substantive issues.
It could hurt him if it's something more than just a run-of-the-mill affair and if there's real evidence and not just an accusation. I hope Allred knows what she's doing, but I increasingly have a bad feeling about this.

I just don't believe Romney could be involved in a sex scandal. That would have to involve something like passion for someone else besides himself.
Yes, he has five sons. My grandmother had 10 children, that isn't ecessarily an indication of passion in a marriage, just that pregnancies are a result of sex.
Nah. Sexual scandal? Nah. Mitt doesn't come off as sexy. Eeew!
Now a scandal having something to do with trampling on someone less privileged or hurting someone to enrich himself?
I'd have a better chance of believing that.
Blurber: Knowing Trump, it's probably just some more crap about him being born in Kenya or going to a madrasah. Be interesting to see what it is, but I'm not too worried.
SK: He really doesn't seem the type. As for hurting someone less privileged to enrich himself, that's what his whole career has consisted of, so it would need to be something pretty damning to stand out much.
