I was fascinated by the article on ancient human sacrifice in northern Europe and its possible ties to slavery. I'm curious as to how neo-pagans who draw spiritual inspiration from ancient European traditions process the violence of their ancestors. If the Christian and Jewish communities wrestle with violence and slavery in their scriptures, do neo-pagans wrestle with it in their history too? I need to research this someday.

Mornin Infidel ... just was reading that Eggs & Bacon (?) post or whatever on the Texas GOP, and it kind of reminded me of something you mentioned to me a couple year's back I reckon, being that until you mentioned it to me, I never even gave it a thought, but it make's sense as far as what would happen if the GOP lost Texas ... like that dude said (E&B) in his piece ... even if GOPers won all those other state's he mentioned, they would still be up shit's creek ... they get alot of those electorial vote's here. But I also was reading something the other day (cant recall what, but it was a news piece), that said Texas had like one of the lowest voter turn- out rate's in the U.S.(I would have never even thought that, the poll's were so packed here in Dallas during the last election!) they were saying like only 30% or so Texan's vote (not sure of the exact figure, but they said it was like low- low by U.S. standard's, so basically they probably for year's just had alot of GOPers voting, cause I met alot of working folk's that say they may vote, but never get around to it either it seem's (long story)

Later Infidel ....

Ahab: My impression is that most Neo-Pagans don't know much about ancient paganism and/or they acknowledge that their modern religion doesn't have much real connection with it. So it's not really "their" history.

(That's ignoring the whole Odinist / Neo-Nazi scene which is a whole other thing, of course.)

Ranch: B&E is a Texas blogger and so has an inside view of these issues. Texas is the potential fulcrum of a national political transformation -- a really successful get-out-the-vote drive there could permanently finish off the Republicans as a national party.

That's another interesting point you just made that never crossed my mind, as far as a strong "get- out- the- vote" drive here in Texas and finishing off the GOP as a national party. I mean right now, whether your left, right, inde or whatever, it is VERY CLEAR that the GOP is No#1 when it come's to this current mess we have, whether it's the economy, our Social Security and other government/ peoples entities remaining to be public and NOT just privately owned, same sex marraige, obstruction to the point where nothing of much significance on some thing's can get done (being they just even buck EVERYTHING the President does as example, simply to "buck" him) ... it's even well known that GOPer's today are NO LONGER true conservatism, free market, and even promote idea's that have proven to be very anti- American as far as investment's in our own country at that, everyone even in their own party has issue's with it stonger than Dem's by a longshot, the only thing they seem united on is "Jesus" or whatever ... but not reality. Being that "IF" this party want's to at least have any of it's candidate's as potentially valid choice's ... THEY MUST restructure, divide, etc. I vote democrat myself ... I would like to see alternative parties more inde and choice for example (more like Sanders, maybe Warren, a tad more progressive), but I know in my heart right now, that ONLY one of these two parties would dominate, therefore I am forced in a way to vote whatever the strong opposition to the GOP and their right wing iron clad comrade's is (their affiliate's that claim to be different ARE, but more extreme as far as privatizing the country to CEO's for an example I noticed), which is democrat. Even though the President may have done thing's that I opposed ... I still for instance realize how this worx today in Washington, and realize that so many of the decent thing's that he vision's, cant be a reality with this constant battle ... he has already shown that he can be truely bipartisan as well ... and they still attack every time he fart's for that matter. Enough from me though ....
